This session is one of my favourites. This relaxed family portrait was captured right in their living room — a space where the kids felt totally at ease. As a family photographer based in Harrogate, I often find that home sessions are ideal for young children. They’re familiar, fun, and full of real connection.

We kept things simple: soft lighting, a neutral backdrop, and just enough direction to bring out natural expressions. The result? A set of genuine portraits the family truly loved — full of smiles, personality, and quiet joy.

Whether you’re looking for something similar in Knaresborough, Harrogate, or across Yorkshire, I’ll bring the studio to you — so you can relax, have fun, and enjoy a photography experience that’s truly personal.

Studio sessions can be just as relaxed and personal – perfect for couples or families who want timeless simplicity.

This couple wanted timeless portraits that felt personal and relaxed, a simple way to mark a special moment in their lives.

We kept the setup clean and classic: a white studio backdrop, soft lighting, and gentle guidance to help them feel at ease. With no distractions or pressure, we captured portraits that showed exactly who they are — full of warmth, quiet joy, and real connection.

Whether it’s a couple, a young family, or three generations together, studio sessions are a great choice if you’d prefer a controlled setting without the unpredictability of outdoor weather.

As a family photographer based in Harrogate, I offer both studio sessions and home-based setups across Knaresborough and the wider Yorkshire area. I’ll bring everything needed — you just bring yourselves.

If you prefer an outdoor session, there are some great locations in and around Harrogate. One of my favourites is The Stray when the cherry trees are in blossom.

This springtime session was a real highlight. We headed to The Stray in Harrogate, where the cherry blossoms were in full bloom. This provided the perfect backdrop for a relaxed and joyful family portrait.

As a family photographer based in Harrogate, I love working outdoors when the season allows. The kids had space to run around, everyone felt at ease, and the laughter came naturally. All I had to do was gently guide the moment, then the real smiles and connections took care of themselves.

This family wanted portraits that were fresh, vibrant, and full of life. The result? A collection of beautiful images they’ll treasure for years, and a few that may just end up framed on the wall.

If you’re thinking about an outdoor session, Harrogate has no shortage of stunning locations. The Stray and other scenic spots can make ideal settings for relaxed, natural portraits that reflect who you really are.

What to Expect When You Book a Family Session

Every session is a little different — just like every family. But here’s how the process usually works:

Step 1 – Planning Your Session

We’ll begin with a relaxed, no-pressure chat to find out what you’re looking for: who’s taking part, the kind of feel you’re after, and whether you’d prefer to shoot at home, outdoors, or in the studio. I’ll walk you through everything and help you choose what works best for your family.

If you decide to book, we’ll choose your collection at this point too. Each collection includes a selection of beautifully edited digital images, plus a credit toward prints or wall art.

To secure your session, a non-refundable booking fee is payable immediately. This confirms your slot in my diary, meaning I won’t take other bookings for that time. You’ll then receive a simple written agreement outlining what we’ve discussed, plus an image-sharing form (also known as a model release) so you can let me know how you’d like your photos used.

The remaining balance for your chosen collection is due for payment no later than 7 days before the session. This ensures everything is settled in advance — so on the day, we can focus fully on creating something relaxed, meaningful, and full of connection.

Step 2 – Your Photo Session

On the day of the shoot, you can expect a calm, enjoyable experience. I’ll bring everything needed (including lighting to backdrops if we’re working in your home). We’ll make sure the session feels natural and unhurried. I’ll gently guide where needed, but mostly I step back to let genuine moments unfold.

Whether your family is playful, quiet, full of energy, or somewhere in between, I’ll capture the connections that matter.

Step 3 – Choosing Your Images

Within two weeks, you’ll receive a beautiful online gallery to view at your leisure. Depending on the collection you choose, you’ll receive a set number of digital images, plus a print credit to use toward creating something tangible.

I always recommend ordering prints. There’s something special about holding a moment in your hands. Whether it’s framed for your wall or passed down through generations, it becomes more than a picture, it becomes part of your family’s story.
