This springtime session was a real highlight. We headed to The Stray in Harrogate, where the cherry blossoms were in full bloom. This provided the perfect backdrop for a relaxed and joyful family portrait.

What to Expect When You Book a Family Session

Every session is a little different — just like every family. But here’s how the process usually works:

Step 1 – Planning Your Session

We’ll begin with a relaxed, no-pressure chat to find out what you’re looking for: who’s taking part, the kind of feel you’re after, and whether you’d prefer to shoot at home, outdoors, or in the studio. I’ll walk you through everything and help you choose what works best for your family.

If you decide to book, we’ll choose your collection at this point too. Each collection includes a selection of beautifully edited digital images, plus a credit toward prints or wall art.

To secure your session, a non-refundable booking fee is payable immediately. This confirms your slot in my diary, meaning I won’t take other bookings for that time. You’ll then receive a simple written agreement outlining what we’ve discussed, plus an image-sharing form (also known as a model release) so you can let me know how you’d like your photos used.

The remaining balance for your chosen collection is due for payment no later than 7 days before the session. This ensures everything is settled in advance — so on the day, we can focus fully on creating something relaxed, meaningful, and full of connection.

Step 2 – Your Photo Session

On the day of the shoot, you can expect a calm, enjoyable experience. I’ll bring everything needed (including lighting to backdrops if we’re working in your home). We’ll make sure the session feels natural and unhurried. I’ll gently guide where needed, but mostly I step back to let genuine moments unfold.

Whether your family is playful, quiet, full of energy, or somewhere in between, I’ll capture the connections that matter.

Step 3 – Choosing Your Images

Within two weeks, you’ll receive a beautiful online gallery to view at your leisure. Depending on the collection you choose, you’ll receive a set number of digital images, plus a print credit to use toward creating something tangible.

I always recommend ordering prints. There’s something special about holding a moment in your hands. Whether it’s framed for your wall or passed down through generations, it becomes more than a picture, it becomes part of your family’s story.

I offer outdoor sessions, studio sessions, or I can come to your home — whichever feels most relaxed and natural for your family. Home sessions are especially popular with families who have young children, and I bring all the lighting and backdrops we’ll need.

How much do family portrait sessions cost?

Once you’ve chosen your collection and confirmed your date, I’ll send over a short agreement and your invoice.
A 50% non-refundable booking fee is payable immediately to reserve your session.
The remaining 50% balance is due no later than 7 days before the shoot.
This ensures your booking is secure — and everything is settled in advance, so we can focus fully on creating something special with no distractions.

What should we wear for our family photos?

Wear what makes you feel like you. Comfortable, coordinated outfits work best — but there’s no need to match perfectly. After booking, I’ll send you a guide with tips on how to choose colours and clothing that photograph beautifully.

Can grandparents or extended family join us?

Absolutely! Whether it’s just the kids, the whole crew, or three generations together, we’ll plan a session that includes everyone you’d like.

Will we get both colour and black-and-white versions of our photos?

Yes. You’ll receive your selected images in colour, and I’m happy to include black-and-white versions where they work beautifully — it’s all part of your final gallery.

What happens after the shoot?

Within about two weeks, I’ll send you a link to your private online gallery. From there, you’ll choose your included digital images (based on your collection), and you can also use your print credit to order wall art, albums, or gift prints.

Do you offer framed prints or wall art?

Yes! I strongly encourage printing your images — not just to decorate your home, but to create keepsakes your family can treasure for years. You’ll be able to use your included print credit toward a selection of professional-grade prints and products.

Do you offer gift vouchers for family photography?

Yes, I do! A family session makes a wonderful gift. Just get in touch and I’ll arrange a custom voucher for the occasion.
